Target Rock Wildlife Refuge - Huntington

Updated: Dec 31, 2021

Target rock wildlife refuge some of the most unique in pristine nature in Long Island specially in Western Suffolk County. Some of the areas there can make you feel like you’re not in another country. When you arrive there was a machine to pay a fee for access to the refuge. Walking the trails is the only activity allowed in this Space. Dogs are not allowed in compared to your average preserve you can tell the space is really meant to present to maintain wildlife. If you walk straight from the parking lot into the refuge you’ll eventually reach a beach area with a staircase down to the beach and some benches. Across from the speech is eat and snack. From there all the way south of the refuge especially at low Tide you can walk to a fabulous sand bar that reaches out toward the Huntington Harbor and the lighthouse bear. If you walk all the way out at low tide you can start to feel like you’re standing on the water. There are also some ruins right before the Sandbar at the southern tip made of brick it can be interesting to take photos there and you can sit on top of some of the remaining structures.

A truly hidden gem.
