This place is a real gem. The architecture of the building is beautiful, the sense of peace there is excellent, and the nature on the grounds is extraordinary. The seminary is located in Lloyd Harbor, NY north of Huntington, NY. The outdoor area has an excellent trail along the water. There are beautiful wide open fields, and some recreational areas for picnicking or retreat groups.
The grounds are mainly used for retreat groups. Individual overnight retreats are available as well. To stay at the seminary for your own spiritual retreat is $100 a night. The inside of the seminary contains a church and library as well as offices.
The seminary is no longer used for people becoming priests but is still used for those becoming deacons.
If you go there are two entranceways. One is central to the main building and the other is on the southern border of the land there. There are many signs saying “no trespassers“ and “parking for guests and visitors only”. This can be a bit ambiguous. I have been told that is okay for lay people to visit the building as long as they sign in, as well as the grounds. The library is also open to the public, but has not been open due to covid. You may want to call ahead to clarify any questions you have before going.
Otherwise the nature trails here are fantastic and the grounds can make you feel like you are in another country. It is One of the most beautiful places on Long Island. There are also some ruins and other building structures further north on the grounds. There are some deer here too. Be careful of ticks in the summer.
The easiest way to access the water front trail is by parking at the visitor entrance on the right side, then walking back to the trees from the basketball court. It can be tricky but you will know when there is a defined trail and not an only slightly maintained one.
