This park contains the largest lake in central Nassau county if not all of Nassau county. The main lake was originally manmade by a water company. Now it is a massive view to take in and natural environment for a lot of wildlife.
It is easy to underestimate this park due to the major highways and roads that surround it, but it is large in its own right.
Some main features:
-Horseback riding trail rides in the park (the stable is down the block run by a private company)
-The entire main lake can be hiked around: the lake fits in between west Hempstead, Hempstead and Rockville center. Although the south end can be tricky.
-you can kayak or bring a boat on the lake but it requires a permit
-The south end of the park is popular for dogs and dog owners although there is no fenced area
-Fishing is popular here
-Tennis Courts
-BBQ and picnic tables
-The north side has a separate lake that is beautiful and Had a beach but there are plants growing there now
-There are a lot of hiking trails there too
-Bike Riding is allowed
-The main lake still has beaches
-playgrounds
-a third body of water near the dog area with lily pads
Kayakying permit requirement has been waived for this year.
