Coindre Hall is a beautiful park with an interesting history. There is a beautiful mansion there originally occupied by McKesson the pharmaceutical magnate. There is also a matching smaller building on the water there. When you get there the architecture is great. Then behind, there is a dog friendly park with a sprawling hills that gives the park a extra 3 dimensional component and a view of Huntington Harbor that has panoramic quality despite it being a narrow area. Beyond the grassy hills there is a pond with either frogs or crickets playing a beautiful sound. Then, there are large stone ledges where you can sit or view the water. You can also walk around the smaller cottage. It is a great place for sunsets on the water. There are also wooded hiking trails alongside the grassy hills with some interesting structures mixed in. To the right (east) of the park there is Star Beach, another park where people can launch their kayaks from a sandy beach. Coindre Hall appears to be open to the public and Star Beach is meant for Huntington Residents. I also forgot to mention that the main mansion has events, and hosts weddings. After McKesson owned the property it was sold to a Catholic brotherhood. A true gem of Long Island.
